Tomb Raider Sequel – Is this a late April Fool?!

Tomb Raider Sequel
Tomb Raider Sequel – three words I never expected to hear after the absolute dumpster fire that was the 2018 reboot, starring Alicia Vikander (above).

Alicia was about the only saving grace of the film, but it stank for so many reasons – it had a plastic baddie, it had obvious plot ‘twists’ and a piss-poor script. Plus, movies based on videogames rarely work, so you may as well not bother.

A film generally needs to gross three times its budget in order to break even, once you’ve taken into account marketing etc. As for the latest movie, according to Box Office Mojo, Tomb Raider 2018 had a budget of $94m and grossed $275m worldwide – so it might not even have seen any profit prior to its home release, and any studio with a brain would be looking for a box office take of around $600-800m for it to be a big success that demanded a sequel. It also reviewed badly across the board, so almost NOBODY wants another movie.

Except Warner Bros, it seems.

Amy Jump (collaborator with Ben Wheatley on films such as Free Fire) will write the script, but no director or possible release date has yet been announced. Let’s hope they forget.

Below, you can see my unboxing of the Blu-ray for the 2018 reboot.
