Top Boy Season 2 – The DVDfever Review – Netflix – Ashley Walters

Top Boy Season 2 Top Boy Season 2 (or Series 4 if we’re counting properly – but then as I said last time, the first two Channel 4 series have been renamed Top Boy: Summerhouse) is here, and comes three years after the last one. I did predict we’d get this new season in 2021, but we all know what’s basically delayed everything for some considerable time, so I won’t go into that.

In this review, I’ll set the scene for the opener, but obviously will avoid spoilers that aren’t set out in the premise.

At the end of the last season, Dushane wanted to get Jamie to work for him when he gets out of jail, but what our lead didn’t know is that the cops are onto him, and want him off the streets ASAP.

Over in Spain – and seemingly unconnected at first – drug dealers Emilio (Hugo Silva) and Antonio (Antonio Gonzalez) are out on the ocean wave, and about to throw a body overboard… except that there’s one last sting in the tale about that side plot. More pressing is that Emilio’s wife, Sofia (Marisa Gonzalez), has serious health concerns and this causes great concern for them all, with her also being Antonio’s sister.

The billing for the opener also states that Dushane is planning to go legit. Can that be true? He seems the least on-the-level individual that anyone can come across. He just has a more calm demeanour than anyone else, which certainly helps when going for some creative accounting to get the taxman of his back (so, “legit” goes out the window before we’ve barely begun this season).

Summerhouse is undergoing a redevelopment and turfing out all the residents, while Dushane is setting up a nice apartment with girlfriend Shelley (Simbi Ajikawo), and Sully (Kane Robinson) is still very down-at-heel in life. But it’s not long before the bullets start firing, and well-planned drug deals are up the spout. So, can Dushane still achieve the millions he expects to make?

Returning from the last season are Lizzie (Lisa Dwan), who has a Spanish connection, and wants to get involved with the big shipment of drugs that’s due in from Morocco; and Jaq (Jasmine Jobson) – the last young lady anyone would want to get on the wrong side with, and she’s just started stepping out with Becks.

UPDATE Episodes 6-8:

Spoiler Inside SelectShow

Similar to Ozark, I’ll keep the information I give brief, but it’s safe to say that everyone has their fingers in a lot of pies, and then along come even more pies. And, more pies means more problems.

Thanks to our friends at Netflix for the screener prior to release.

Top Boy Season 2 is not available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but is on Netflix from Friday March 4th.
