When Ruby Wax Met… – The DVDfever Review – Ruby Wax retrospective

When Ruby Wax Met When Ruby Wax Met… sees the comedian interviewing anyone who’ll listen to her whiny voice, but she can be entertaining at times.

More recently, she’s become a “mental health expert”, which is the only thing people talk about when they realise life is unfair and can sometimes be quite shit, and they need to pull themselves out of the nosedive they’re in, but it’s just easier to shout, “Ooh, me mental health!”

In the present day, Ruby talks to someone off-camera, making it all look very odd, whilst pretending to be watching old clips on an ancient-style projector, rather than someone just showing content from a USB stick on a TV.

Those featured from back in the ’90s include Donald Trump, who speculated about becoming President; Carrie Fisher jokes about having written all of Paul Simon’s hits, while Ruby wishes she could’ve lived with Carrie forever; while Golden Hawn who, at the time, was almost 50 but didn’t look a day over 30.

In addition, Tom Hanks, who was paid to just laugh inanely at her jokes – without her knowing at the time of the interview…

And then OJ Simpson, in 1998, four years after he was cleared of the murder of his wife Nicole and, her friend, Ron Goldman, who OJ Simpson definitely didn’t murder whatsoever… (ahem)

There’s also brief footage of Felicity Kendall in S&M gear from The Full Wax in the ’90s. I’ll leave that image in your head 😉

Overall, this is worth a look, but it is just cheap summer filler.

When Ruby Wax Met… is on BBC2 tonight at 9pm, but is unlikely to be available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD. This is a three-part series over three weeks.

After broadcast, it will be on the BBC iPlayer.

There’s no trailer, but below is an earlier Ruby Wax ‘The Full Wax’ compilation show, which is below.
