Winter… Dr Ethan Winter…
Played by Richard Armitage (Missing You), he likes to go dangerous rock climbing on his own… as if!
And, it does make me laugh that he wears a safety helmet, given that if he fell from the great height he’s climbed, the head would be the least of his worries!
Similar to Haley Joel Osment in The Sixth Sense, he talks to the dead, except in Ethan’s case, he’s a coroner and they don’t talk back. I hope they can hear him okay, given that he does mumble a bit, and the preview doesn’t have subtitles.
If there was ever an acting job I could manage, it would be to play a corpse, given that I’m terrible at learning lines, but for this case, the first cadaver on his slab is a woman, and the situation is pretty gros, given how she has fly eggs in her eyes!
And, they cut a body open, just as I was cutting up a pizza!
Working with him in a love/hate situation is cop DI Lauren Bell (Annabel Scholey – The Serial Killer’s Wife), who’s moved up from that there London, and the ghost of her Chief Inspector Dad follows her around, given his strict reputation… not REALLY follow her around in a ‘Ghosts‘ way, of course.
As for who did the dead, obviously no spoilers here, but it is amusing that the cop computers can take images from CCTV for car number plates, leading to them being scanned and automatically and instantly enhanced, so they can be instantly fingered!!
Plus, the police know everything about people when it comes to what they did with dead bodies… which makes you wonder how the cops were clueless AF during Channel 5’s Forever Home, when Denise Welch thought she was ferrying the guy’s dead wife about in her van!
However, since he deals with the dead bodies after they’ve been brought to him, why’s he going out in the field with the cops? As Bell tells him, he has no jurisdiction in that field? Okay, this is the same situation as Ludwig, and it’s a TV drama. I’ll get me coat…
Winter does have an other clichés to throw at you, though, but it’s TV and not reality. I need to remember that… But it is largely enjoyable, so I will check out more.
Winter begins Wednesday night at 9pm, and airs weekly. From day one, I expect the whole series will be available to watch on ITVX.
It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but when it is, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.
