73 Yards – Doctor Who Season 1 Episode 4 – The DVDfever Review

73 Yards

73 Yards is the fourth episode of (ahem) Season 1.

Expect SPOILERS in this review, so watch the episode first.

This one takes us back to Wales, beacuse Disney can’t be seen to be spending money on fancy intergalactic sets.

All of a sudden, Gatwa’s gone (HURRAH!) and the TARDIS is locked, and a whole lot of weird stuff is going on, spawning from a ‘fairy circle’ on top of a cliff, and reference to a ‘Mad Jack’.

Ruby stumbles upon the pub which is about as welcoming as the one in An American Werewolf in London, starts seeing the a strange woman wherever she goes, but just having a lot of slo-mo nonsense and zero happening does not make up for a lack of plot.

For reasons best known to Russell T Davies and his crappy scripts, the actress Susan Twist is in every episode, hence why Ruby asks her if they’ve met before, and the The Devil’s Chord’s “there’s always a twist at the end”, even though that episode was originally due to be shown much later in the series.

Meanwhile, Anita Dobson was back in it again, and when did UNIT go from United Nations Intelligence Taskforce to Unified

Anyhoo, even as the end credits began, I was still waiting for 73 Yards to start. Where did the Doctor go? Why did he suddenly come back? How was there a paradox that seemed to enable this? Just utter bollocks.

Since this show returned, the overnight ratings have gone from 2.6m and 2.4m for the first two back-to-back episodes (BARB confirming 4.01m and 3.91m, respectively, including 7 days of BBC iPlayer) to 2.06m for the overnights last week. How long before it gets ‘rested’ again?

I can’t wait to see the tweets as the last remaining fans suck RTD off, claiming it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, because they’re too cucked to think for themselves.

You can watch 73 Yards on the BBC iPlayer.

You can also pre-order Season 1 on Limited Blu-ray Steelbook, Blu-ray and DVD, ahead of the release date of August 12th 2024.
