Believe Me is a real-life drama which opens with any other big night out, this one for young mum, Sarah Adams (Aimee-Ffion Edwards – Mr Burton).
Unfortunately, she gets into the cab of John Worboys (Daniel Mays – Shelter), where he seemingly gives her a glass of regular alcohol to help him celebrate a big win that he’s had… which had something in it that knocked her almost unconscious, leading him to get in the back of the cab with her… before she DID pass out.
When she awoke – and in a hospital bed, the worst had happened.
This drama shows how bad policing screwed things up in arresting this ‘thing’ that became known as the Black Cab Racist, such as in her ‘Achieving Best Evidence’ interview, where the cops are the questionable ones, since one remarks how she’s not crying or angry at the time of it, yet she’s advised by another cop NOT to show emotion.
It’s a documented fact that a number of events led to Worboys going free, before he was finally imprisoned some years later. As such, in the meantime, trying to convince the police what actually happened – while they’re going on about her being drunk – will be incredibly difficult to deal with, given that they effectively make her think that they’re accusing HER of making it up!
I’ll add more once the first episode has aired, since this is just a preview for now.
Believe Me begins tomorrow night on ITV at 9pm, and once the first episode airs, the whole series will be available to stream on ITVX.
It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but when it is, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.
