Death Stranding – Gameplay trailer & release date – I really don’t get it…

Death Stranding

Death Stranding – from Hideo Kojima – now has a release date, but after watching the new trailer, I really don’t get what’s going on.

It still seems part-walking simulator, and there’s still the baby in a portable womb, but now there’s a full gameplay trailer, and it’s… another dystopian future where America has turned to crap, and somehow, life must begin again. Hmm…

You play Sam Porter Bridges (Norman Reedus, Triple 9), who is clearly instrumental in all this, while there’s baddies out there in the form of “BTs”, whatever they are precisely, and then there’s a zombie army. Always with the zombies…

The rest of the cast is made up of Cliff (Mads Mikkelsen Arctic), Fragile (Léa Seydoux , above – Spectre, Blue Is The Warmest Colour), Mama (Margaret Qualley The Nice Guys), Deadman (Guillermo del Toro – director of The Shape Of Water), Heartman (Nicolas Winding Refn – director of Only God Forgives), Die-Hardman (Tommie Earl Jenkins), Higgs (Troy Baker The Last Of Us, The Last Of Us Part II), Amelie (Lindsay Wagner The Bionic Woman), and Emily O’Brien (The Bad Batch).

The trailer looks visually impressive, and comes from a PS4 Pro, rather than the PS5 visuals I was expecting, but great visuals a good game don’t necessarily make…

Death Stranding is released on PS4 on November 8th in a regular and Special Edition version, but the latter isn’t yet on Amazon. However, you can see it below, so click on the image for the full-size version.

December 3rd 2016:

Death Stranding is the forthcoming game from Hideo Kojima, starring actor Norman Reedus (Triple 9) and this new trailer, shown at the The Game Awards 2016, features both Mads Mikkelsen (Doctor Strange) and Guillermo del Toro (Mimic).

Developed by Kojima Productions, Kojima described the game at E3 as a sort-of action game, but with new and different elements, comparing it to 1987’s stealth title Metal Gear, and one of the game’s main themes through a short story by Kōbō Abe, in which the first tool created by humans was a stick, meant as protection by putting a distance between oneself and “bad things”, followed by a rope in order to secure things.

It all looks very bizarre, but certainly something to take notice of when it’s finally released, on a date yet to be announced.
