HOOPS (yes, all in capitals – I didn’t just fall on my keyboard) is a new animated series starring Jake Johnson from Let’s Be Cops and Jurassic World, who plays basketball coach Ben Hopkins, and it’s clearly a pet project for Johnson because it sounds like… at least, he’s having fun.
Ben’s schtick is that he swears a lot in a very offensive and either personal or sexual way, sometimes even when kids are within earshot. Meanwhile, he and his team enjoy watching adult movies together, and here’s some example dialogue, as he wants to borrow some money from his equestrian ex-wife, for a reason I don’t care to remember:
- Ben: “Oh, Shannon, you should see these two horses f**k each other. It reminds me of our first date, when we watched those horses f**k each other. That was so funny.”
Shannon: “You know what was funny? I pretended your dick wasn’t tiny, our entire marriage. Oh, that was fun.”
Maybe if you think swearing without reason is funny, you’ll enjoy this. For me, HOOPS is lazy as hell. It was also unavailable for preview before its streaming date, and after watching the first episode, I can see why.
HOOPS is not available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but is on Netflix from today.
