My BRUTALLY HONEST REVIEW of I, JACK WRIGHT on BBC1!

Jack Wright I, Jack Wright… It’s not quite I, Daniel Blake.

First off, this series has a stupid title, though. SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is ruined when any non-langauge characters are included, like the comma in this. Same goes for basic words like “I”. But then, this is how a Will begins…

Before Trevor Eve, in the titular role, gets the chance to do very much, he’s murdered. However, when it comes round to the reading, his current wife, Sally (Nikki Amuka-BirdBetrayal), and sons Gray (John SimmGrace) and John (Daniel RigbyCold Storage), are rather frozen out of Jack’s fortune.

This isn’t good news for any of them, given that Sally’s left feeling adrift, Gray has fiduciary issues as playing music in a bad, and having other artists that he promotes isn’t the moneyspinner it should be, while John is assuming control over his Dad’s company at the time of Jack’s death.

The story is also told in flashback, with various cast members being interviewed about what happened, their locations sometimes being wildly different and so I won’t reveal where they are.

However, there’s supposed to be intrigue as to why there was an almost last-minute change to Jack’s will, but it’s not one that grabbed me. Without saying who gets what, it’s safe to say that this is a big-standard tale of the proceeds of a Will going in directions unexpected, leading to endless and predictable familial tensions.

The biggest problem with I, Jack Wright, though, is that everyone looks bored to be involved, and that it’s another case of a co-production and/or import that a main UK channel has acquired and shoved into a late slot to be ignored. It was previously shown in 2025 on “U & Alibi”, or whatever the fuck they’re calling it, these days.

It’s also odd that when police come in to seize Jack’s computer in order to get a handle on what might’ve happened, they also take the monitor. Erm… what for?!

I, Jack Wright begins tonight on BBC1 at 9.15pm with two episodes each tonight, tomorrow and Monday July 20th.

It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but when it is, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.

The whole series is now on BBC iPlayer.
