I Will Find You is a new Harlan Coben adaptation, and Netflix normally save these for January 1st, so is this an early New Year’s treat, or one to shove out over the summer, when people are away or watching the World Cup?
David Burroughs (Sam Worthington – Fuze, Avatar: Fire And Ash) is in jail for killing his son, Matthew, and currently on his 5th year of a life sentence, but… he didn’t do it. Or so he says, since that’s what ALL killers say!
In this time, he’s decided he doesn’t want anyone to visit, including family, but now, his sister, Rachel (Britt Lower – Severance), has turned up, and drops the bombshell that it’s quite possible that after all this time, Matthew’s still alive? Egads!
Many moons ago, the warden knew Sam’s Dad, but still gathers that the evidence points to Sam killing Matthew, despite his protestations. Also throw in guard Ted Wesson (Christopher Redman) who has it in for him, but if his son is still alive, who would want to do this to him and why? Well, if I know one thing about Harlan Coben dramas, it’s that anything is possible… which I know won’t help you narrow down whodunit ๐
In fact, as an aside, Mr Redman looks like BBC Radio 4 presenter Roger Bolton, when he used to present Right To Reply in the ’90s and early 2000s, and this gives me an excuse to mention the 2001 episode I was on ๐
On the plus side, this has a welcome feel of 2000’s Prison Break – given that if you thought some other dramas stretched the bounds of credibility, this one takes it further, but on the downside, the plot is full of holes and even are you can spot them all gaping, the cops quizzing everyone also point them out.
And if you missed it the first time, the cops repeat things later on, so the 8 episodes could easily be cut down. Or maybe it’s for those who doomscroll on their phones while watching TV, as they are hard of thinking?
Still, in a way you could try this predictable nonsense, and enjoy it from a stupidity point of view.
Thanks to our friends at Netflix for the screener prior to release.
