Jenny’s Wedding is a forthcoming drama which has a premise that’s so old hat and tired it could make me angry.
The US rightly made it legal for same-sex marriages to take place, as of last weekend, yet this film would’ve been shot before that time and I wanted to shout at the screen for how ridiculous it all looked
Jenny Farrell (Katherine Heigl) has told almost everyone in her life, before now, that she’s a lesbian, yet who hasn’t she told? Her parents. And she tells them? And they’re like “OH MY GOD!! WE GAVE BIRTH TO A LESBIAN!! HEAVEN FORFEND!!!”
So what happens when they find out that her roommate, Kitty (Alexis Bledel), is not her roommate but actually her lover? And they want to get married? “OH MY GOD!! NOW SHE WANTS TO MARRY ANOTHER LESBIAN!! HEAVEN FORFEND!!! AGAIN!!!”
Oh, purlease, this film sounds like the worst idea in the history of ideas. Shame on her co-stars Tom Wilkinson, Linda Emond, Grace Gummer, and writer/director Mary Agnes Donoghue for collectively getting this tosh together.
Jenny’s Wedding is released in the US on July 31st, but there is no UK release date yet. Don’t hold your breath…
