Nocturne is another of Apple TV’s intriguing pot-boilers, this time centered around major nutjob Jurek Walter (Stephen Graham – Adolescence), who’s incarcerated at Riverside Psychiatric Hospital, and giving major Hannibal Lecter-style vibes.
Although he resides in the basement area of the hospital – no windows to the outside world, relatively new recruit Karl (Rory Culkin – Lords Of Chaos) is great at his job, but given the unfortunate task of changing his role to that of giving Jurek his regular an injections, all leading to the most intense experience of his life that he’ll ever have.
Meanwhile, down the cop shop, Bill Camp (How To Make A Killing) plays police Chief Ellison, because Bill Camp has to be in everything. It’s the law.
Enter a grimy young lad, found staggering about on the road, kid who claims to be Michael Frost, a kid who went missing years ago.
Jonah Lynn (Liev Schreiber – Caught Stealing) is the former homicide detective who was tasked to find both Michael and her sister, Felicia, but she’s frantic because he didn’t finish the job due to family tragedies, hence he’s back into it, now.
Graham is nicely chilling in his role, but of his character, does he know anything about Michael Frost’s release? And while Jonah he does, how can that be, given Jurek’s been in jail a long time?
I’m just breaking the surface of this drama, so have plenty more to get into and will do soon.
Nocturne is on Apple TV from Friday, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD. If it is in future, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.
