Liam Gallagher: Knebworth 22 – The DVDfever Review – Paramount+

Liam Gallagher: Knebworth 22 Liam Gallagher: Knebworth 22 is the documentary to accompany the gig put on by the former Oasis co-singer, the band he joined after his brother, Noel, put an ad in the newspaper, and only Liam applied for it.

Oasis is the ’90s band which had some great tunes like Champagne Supernova, Supersonic and Cigarettes & Alcohol, along with some terrible ones like Roll With It and Stand By Me, the latter of which is currently being used to promote the terrible bank, Halifax, where not even the Complaints Department do any work. I would complain, but…

Back to this, however, and ‘our Liam’ talks about how only he can ‘do Knebworth’ on his own, and that the likes of Mick Jagger and Bono couldn’t, yet Liam is also surrounded by a Band. Still, he sees it as an achievement of sorts because the gig comes almost 26 years after the 1996 Oasis gigs at the same place, on August 10/11th of that year.

One thing that was request for the documentary is for big fans from all around the world to send in clips, which would form part of the documentary. Of these, one man has a home bar called Champagne Supernova, which he built during the lockdowns, and there’s a young, blonde woman in Belgium called Aya, who was very memorable.

However, Liam Gallagher: Knebworth 22 is very self-congratulatory, to the point where we see Liam being so very full of himself and swearing a lot, leading to him being like a parody of himself.

There’s a bit of background with him, then it’s 7 days until the gig, then around 40 minutes in, we get to the soundcheck the day before the first of two gigs on the Queen’s 70th Jubilee weekend in June, and we hear lots of audiecne members chatting about their love for Liam, but…

…I didn’t learn a thing about Mr Gallagher in this entire documentary, and I don’t think there’s anything to be learned.

Still, perhaps the fans will only care to see 90 minutes of Liam opening his gob, so his empty vessel can make the most noise. And they won’t be disappointed.

As an aside, fans can also see the full 80-minute gig on Paramount+, along with the 1996 Oasis gig which runs for 110 minutes.

Thanks to our friends at Paramount+ for the screener prior to release.

Liam Gallagher: Knebworth 22 is not available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but is on Paramount+ from today.
