Luke Perry – Beverly Hills 90210 actor dies at 52

Luke Perry
Luke Perry follows The Prodigy’s Keith Flint into making today a very grim one, as yet another entertainer has died way before their time.

The only details given so far are that he has died following a massive stroke which he suffered on Wednesday last week, after filming scenes for the drama Riverdale. Although that’s not one I’m familiar with, I grew up watching Beverly Hills 90210 big-time as it was great escapist entertainment back in the day.

Perry also had a great cameo in the opening scene of Luc Besson’s bizarre The Fifth Element, as he makes a note of every time he hears, “Aziz, light!” (you’ll remember that if you’ve seen it – and if you haven’t, then you really should). Oh, and don’t forget another cameo in 1993’s The Simpsons episode, Krusty Gets Kancelled, when he plays Sideshow Luke Perry to Krusty The Klown.

His publicist, Arnold Robinson, has said that when he died, he was surrounded by his children, Jack and Sophie, fiancée Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, and his siblings, Tom Perry and Amy Coder.

His BH90210 co-star, Shannen Doherty, said she had been in touch with him after his stroke, “I can’t talk about it here ’cause I will literally start crying but I love him and he knows I love him. It’s Luke, and he’s my Dylan.”

RIP Luke Perry, and I really wish I could find the full opening scene to The Fifth Element, but it’s not online, so instead, here’s Luke Perry as Dylan from season 10 of Beverly Hills 90210.
