Keith Flint – The Prodigy singer, dies aged 49

Keith Flint
Keith Flint is best known as being the lead singer for ’90s pop group The Prodigy, and the news broke today, that he has sadly died aged just 49, after being found unconscious at home at 8.10am this morning.

His death is not being treated as suspicious, and earlier, according to Wikipedia, who based their source as BBC News and The Guardian (neither of whom now mention this), he had from AIDS, although it was later revealed by bandmate Liam Howlett that he had taken his own life.

I was at Keele University when their songs were just starting to be released, the first one being Charly, which sampled the ’70s Public Information Film Charley Says, where a young boy was advised against walking off with strangers thanks to the warnings from his pet cat, Charly. What a clever cat! The dance beats were intertwined with the feline’s meowing, and it was incredibly weird but fantastic.

Similarly, Everybody In The Place rang true with us, as it was played at the nightclub, The Place, in Hanley, where we went from time to time and had many great nights there.

Other great tracks over the years included Out of Space, No Good (Start the Dance) and the contraversial Smack My Bitch Up, but for me, the best was Firestarter, and nothing could beat that track blaring out of the original Sony Playstation console, as it was featured in the excellent game Wipeout 2097, and you can see an example of this below.

RIP Keith Flint 🙁
