Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed is a weird title for a bizarre drama, where Paula’s (Tatiana Maslany – Keeper) about to have the time from hell, as she’s enjoying a kinky time online with Trevor (Brandon Flynn), who may or may not be clever, given that someone appears to have bumped him off mid-call…
But when she gets calls from him later, demanding a huge stack of cash, whilst also seeming to know a great deal about her – and more than she shared, is it a scam? Is it blackmail? Is he bluffing? Either way, it’s safe to say that she certainly gets more than she bargains for, and as it goes on, the storyline clues us in some more.
Meanwhile, her ex, Karl (Jake Johnson – Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse), is with a new woman and looking to take custody of daughter Hazel (Nola Wallace – The Strangers Chapter 3) and move to another State, so she’s got problems all over the place, and ones that nosy colleagues Rudy (Charlie Hall) and Geri (Kiarra Hamagami Goldberg) want to know all about.
However, while it’s reasonably engaging, it’s not great. Maybe it’ll improve the longer it goes on, but in a review, there’s not an awful lot I can say without giving spoilers, or revealing anything that’s about to happen. There’s 8 episodes and I haven’t seen them all yet, at this point, but it’s all highly improbable.
That said, I do like both Ms Maslany and Ms Goldberg, so more of both of them, please!
Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed is on Apple TV from today, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD. If it is in future, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.
