The Five Star Weekend has that name, but there’s not a hint of the former UK band Five Star in it…
Still, in this drama, it’s Christmas and Hollis Shaw (Jennifer Garner – Deadpool And Wolverine) loves all the crap that goes with it… until the news breaks that her husband, Matthew, is killed in a car accident, but then she’s a ‘food influencer’, so as bad as the situation is, at least it takes that nonsense wind from her sails.
Fast-forward to six months later, and she can’t leave msgs on her daughter’s voicemail because it’s full with her late father’s messsages..
But for series, it’s centred around a quintet of women who have either dull or non-existent jobs. They also have nothing of interest to say, and every time they speak it makes me want to yawn my head off. Particularly Regina Hall (Scary Movie 6), as Dru-Ann Jones, who describes Nantucket as a “white person clam island”. Now, imagine if a white person had said “black person clam island”. The shit would hit the fan!
It’s not as if they have any real potential, since in what is basically ‘TV for women’, for these dull characters, one was having an affair with someone they really shouldn’t be doing, another has cancer, and tedious moments continued, especially when Hollis’ teenage crush, Jack (Timothy Olyphant – Havoc), wants to get back with her.
And what sort of fucking names are Hollis, Dru-Ann, Gigi, Tatum and Brooke?
Events were summed up perfectly when one exclaimed, “What the fuck are we doing?”
And, I’m so glad they had a Five Star Weekend because for me, it wasn’t even a One Star Viewing!
The Five Star Weekend is on Sky Documentaries from Thursday July 16th.
It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but when it is, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.
However, you can buy the novel in paperback.
