The Stakeout – Inside No.9 Series 5 Episode 6 – The DVDfever Review

The Stakeout
The Stakeout is the sixth and final episode of Inside No.9 Series 5.

Inside car no.09 resides cops PC Thompson (Steve Pemberton) and PC Varney (Reece Shearsmith), but for one of them, their previous new cop partner suffered the old trope of being murdered…

As they go through their night shift, Thompson likes to pose random brain-teasers to Varney to pass the time on an overnight shift, and also eats chicken tikka masala in the car, saying it has to be left for a few days to really come into its own… giving Varney a rather queasy stomach.

The events take place over the course of three nights, and without giving spoilers, it’s difficult to say too much, so I can only really say that Thompson has never really got over the death of his colleague, there’s a pursuit, and a shot in the dark…

However, it does take a while to figure out where things are going, and although I didn’t suss it until when the revelation came, it still didn’t make for a wholly satisfying episode for me as it took so long to get to that point. Perhaps they should’ve ended the series with last week’s Thinking Out Loud.

The Stakeout is broadcast on BBC2 on Monday March 9th, and then will be on the BBC iPlayer.

Inside No.9 Series 5 is available to pre-order on DVD, but there’s no Blu-ray listed yet. However, with Series 4, I think the Blu-ray came a short time after the DVD release, rather than simultaneously, so hopefully that’ll come soon, as it’s popular series, as it’s longevity testifies.
