Trigonometry – The DVDfever Review – BBC threesome drama

Trigonometry Trigonometry is about millennials living in London who have no real issues to worry about whatsoever.

Ray (Ariane Labed) – and yes, it’s a woman’s name in this programme, gets knocked out while doing synchronises swimming. Meanwhile, we see cafe owner Gemma (Thalissa Teixeira) knocking one out to her laptop and the contents on the screen.

The latter is part of a a couple with paramedia Kieran (Gary Carr), but Ray is looking for a place to stay in the big smoke – or whatever London’s referred to these days, and she leaves Mummy and Daddy with a tear in her eye like she’s a child going to boarding school for the rest of her natural life.

The stupid title leads to the fact that when Ray comes to stay, they all fancy each other, even though none of them are particularly likeable, and it’s never explained how Gemma keeps her cafe afloat when she never pays her staff, and for those that she does hire, most of them are less use than a chocolate teapot.

So, it’s basically, a modern, Rita, Sue and Bob, Too. They’re all rather up themselves and there’s nothing to get your teeth stuck into here (aside whatever they’ll be getting stuck into in future episodes). As such, Trigonometry comes across like a reasonable idea, but without any idea how to carry it out.

Trigonometry begins on BBC2 on Sunday March 15th at 10pm with two episodes each week, and then will be on the BBC iPlayer. The series isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD.
