A Bloody Lucky Day is a new South Korean drama, centering around taxi driver Oh Taek (Lee Sung-min), who is, indeed having a good one, when he starts off his shift by getting some tips, and with his second passenger being a TV celebrity – although why he’s doing the driving when he’s also the boss, and a terrible one at that, who lets lazy staff walk over him, is anyone’s guess.
Still, at least it’s an improvement from before he woke up after having a funky dream involving his estranged family and some pigs, but thankfully not in a Deadwood style, and now he’s awake, perhaps he should buy a lottery ticket?
However, he’s not so lucky when the most unlikely of passengers, Kim Hyuk Soo (Yoo Yeon-Seok – Narco-Saints), makes Taek an offer he can’t refuse – in the form of money, since that’s what our lead needs the most, given his demanding children, so it’s a slam dunk, surely?
Oh, and he also claims he’s killed someone… EEK!
I’ll avoid spoilers, and only mention elements which are in the trailer, but there’s also been an incident with a bus crash, putting a number of individuals in hospital, leaving Hwang Soon-gyoo (Lee Jung-eun – Parasite) without a son, after he dies in hospital, although the cops seem to think he’s taken his own life, and she’s certain there’s a lot more to it, and wants them to investigate. Still, try getting the cops to do some work in 2024…
The connection between these two scenarios will come along in due course, but so far, I’ve seen 2 episodes and it does feel rather dragged out, since A Bloody Lucky Day will go on for ten of them. It really should’ve been cut down, and I don’t think I can sit through the rest, given how slowly it goes.
It’s basically like a TV series version of The Hitcher, but taking forever to get to the point, and just going through a load of old tropes along the way, not even coming close to the original.
