Fraggle Rock: Back To The Rock – The DVDfever Review – Apple TV+ – Jim Henson

Fraggle Rock Fraggle Rock: Back To The Rock sees the ’80s Jim Henson characters return to the small screen.

I remember it being shown in the UK, although while I was 10 when it started in the US, it must’ve come to the UK a bit later, so I was a bit old for it, then. Of course, I’m even older then, but I’ll check it out because nostalgia.

Gobo’s Uncle Travelling Matt is off to explore outer space, apparently, and is going with a Ska-doo, whatever that is. Matt claims that outer space can be reached by going through a portal under the main floor, although on closer inspection, it looks more like a hole in the wall to the garage, for the house lived in by female marine ecosystems student Doc, along with her puppet dog.

Meanwhile, Gobo wants to go with Uncle Matt, and everyone wants to follow, too… which doesn’t seem a wise idea given how no-one has any safety equipment.

Episode 2 sees Matt on his travels, wanting to send back artefacts to Gobo, but in reality, he’s just rummaging through bins before the binmen come along, while the rest of the Fraggles spend their time climbing the Doozer tower and diving into the water below.

As for Doc, she seems more of an after-thought, based on what I’ve seen.

There’s 13 episodes in total, and I’ve only seen the first two because for me, quite frankly, that’s enough. I’m sure young kids will enjoy it more, as it’s aimed more at them.

And even though there’s a new theme tune at the start of episode 1, don’t worry, because the original comes in as the episode closes. Checking episode 2, it’s at the start again.

Naturally, CGI will play a part here and there in the episodes, but like Netflix’s Dark Crystal prequel, the overall look is one that feels just like the original.

Fraggle Rock: Back To The Rock is on Apple TV+ from Friday January 21st, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD. All episodes are available on Day 1.
