Free Guy is the film which looks, to me, like it’ll put the godawful Ghostbusters 3: Afterlife in the shade, as Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool 2 – my favourite film of 2018) plays bank teller Guy who inadvertently discovers that he’s actually an NPC – aka non-player character – inside a brutal, open world video game.
If you’re not sure what this means, then watch the trailer, and see that while a video game goes on, say as when you play one yourself, he is one of those incidental people standing around doing nothing who’ll take the brunt of whatever you throw at them, such as firing a rocket launcher in Grand Theft Auto.
And it looks amazing.
Free Guy is released in the UK on July 1st 2020.
