Jackass: Best And Last is the supposed swansong for the MTV show, followed by a film series, after 25 years of the group doing stupid stunts that you are warned NOT to recreate, and that warning comes both at the start AND end.
I thought they were all in their 60s by now, but while some are in their late 50s, even Johnny Knoxville is just a year older than me, not that I’ll be trying any of this any time soon!
It’s very telling that I made a few more notes for this than I did for Supergirl, and you can imagine which film was more fun, as we get a Robot rectal exam… well, as they tell us, at this age, it’s important to get your prostate checked! There’s a game of Human Pretzel, which is a mix of laxatives and a game of Twister, and one of the gang goes to a doctor with a toy car up his bum, following a raucous party… did he get it at Michael Barrymore’s house?
It’s both amusing AND grim to watch the first ever stunt, with Knoxville shooting himself in the chest with a gun close-up – even WITH a bulletproof vest that thankfully did what it said on the tin! Oh, and the slightly violent remake of Jamiroquai’s Virtual Insanity over the opening credits.
But while the last scene shown recreates the shopping cart from Jackass 3, before we get to that, we’re shown the last ever FILMED scene, which is disappointingly, just one of the cast showing a ping pong ball being limply fired out of their bum. And despite Rachel Wolfson being part of the cast, she was barely featured! (and not even for the ping pong ball bum!)
However, at most, there’s around 40% of NEW content in this – and that includes some previously filmed stuff that was never shown, generally because at the time it was considered to imitable.
So, if you’re paying full price for this, as opposed to on a discount day or some sort of subscription, you’re going to feel ripped off, unless you’ve never seen ANY of it before.
There’s content worth staying for during and after the credits – and if you missed them, check out my video below – but DON’T leave your seat until the Paramount Pictures logo comes up at the end, as then you CAN be sure that the film is over. The logo doesn’t do anything in particular, but it DOES signify the very end… and if you’re not sure, then the projector turning off a minute later surely will do.
And it was a bit annoying that there was a couple in front of me who occasionally chatted, even if it was referencing stuff they’d seen, since this is NOT Gogglebox! But I soon realised that watching Jackass: Best And Last in the cinema is like watching World Cup football in the pub. Asking people to be 100% quiet is fruitless, especially when a minute later, I was given a bellylaugh.
Jackass: Best And Last is in cinemas now, and is available to pre-order on Blu-ray and DVD.
