Little House On The Prairie – The DVDfever Review – Netflix – Luke Bracey

Little House On The Prairie Little House On The Prairie… remember that original music?

Sadly, it’s not in this reboot, and in this time perioid, you can somehow just abandon a perfrectly good house – in Wisconsin, in this case – and then make a long trip to a prairie, with a complete lack of basic toilet facilities. The Ingalls family were apparently still happy, even though they seemingly had no food or drink supplies.

But they didn’t just stop there, as they crossed over a strong river, then since Mum can’t afford all the food in the store, she even refuses a line of credit, even though they build a house far away, so wouldn’t be caught, anyway.

Set from 1872 onwards, I was wondering if we’d get a bold, new take on this tale, but no. While cowboyish Charles Ingalls (Luke BraceyElvis) makes friends with some local Native American Indians, so many of the other adults in this are so po-faced and unfriendly. Why? It’s so unnecessary.

And when his wife, Caroline (Crosby FitzgeraldCrime 101), seemingly breaks her foot when dropping a log on it, it doesn’t actually look badly damaged – just a bit of blood. She’ll literally walk it off!

Plus, when the everyone thinks the two daughters have gone missing at some point, in my day, kids would go out to play all day and not be expected home until it’s dark… but these two have only been gone a couple of hours, and there’s mega panic!

Then again, no-one seems to have a watch on their wrists, so perhaps two hours to them feels more like 20 years?

And since Luke Bracey has a touch of the ‘Arthur Morgan’ look to him, I did start wondering if other Red Dead Redemption 2 characters would drift into shot, perhaps meeting Lt. John J Dunbar from Dances With Wolves coming the other way?

Either way, Little House On The Prairie 2026 had some promise to the idea, but ended up wasting it and just coming off as a bit twee. There’s nothing it does here that justifies its rebooted existence. What a shame.

Thanks to our friends at Netflix for the screener prior to release.

Little House On The Prairie is on Netflix from today.

It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but when it is, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.
