Constellation – The DVDfever Review – Apple TV+ – Noomi Rapace

Constellation Constellation begins with Jo Ericsson (Noomi RapaceBlack Crab) on the run with her daughter, Alice, trying to keep her safe from whatever’s out there. Meanwhile, somehow, she also hears the girl screaming, even though she’s safe?

Then back to Cologne, Germany, 5 weeks earlier, where her husband, Magnus (James D’ArcyOppenheimer), is at home with Alice, while Jo’s up on the International Space Station, with a number of crew members, performing vital sciency experiments, including finding found a state of matter that can only exist in zero gravity. We know these are vital because NASA Commander Henry Calder (Jonathan BanksFreejack) gets upset if anyone veers off plan for a while and starts shouting.

However, Houston, they have a problem, since something has gone wrong, affecting one of the Soyuz escape capusles, with its secondary life support systems damaged beyond repair; and they can’t all fit in the functional Soyuz, since there aren’t enough seats for the whole crew.

After all, the ISS was only designed to run for 2 years, and it’s been more than 30 since it was first in use.

Constellation is very slow going, but it’s great if you like a show where most of the opener is in the ISS, with Jo having to find and replace batteries for her remaining Soyuz, in order to fix it and come home. Sounds like a weird adventure videogame.

Beyond that, there’s a lot of psychiological weird ‘things that go bump in the night’ stuff starts happening, and you don’t really try to understand it, just sit back and watch how it goes. I’ve also seen the second episode, so far, and it’s feeling like a re-run of 2013’s Gravity, but I’ll check out more and see how it goes.

Constellation is on Apple TV+ from tomorrow, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD. However, once announced, it will appear on the New DVD Blu-ray 3D and 4K releases UK list.
