Joker – Trailer 1 – Joaquin Phoenix

Joker Joker now has a full trailer, and it the synopsis states: “Joker centers around an origin of the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Todd Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.”

However it turns out, as it’s a standalone film – and so I’m not sure why it exists – the good news is that it’s a reasonable 122 minutes long, so does NOT ramble on and on like most of the Marvel superhero movies!

And as for the joke “When I said I wanted to be a comedian, everyone laughed at me…. They’re not laughing now(!)”, I hope they’ve paid the estate of Bob Monkhouse for that, since that’s who wrote it.

The film is released in the UK on October 4th.

April 3rd:

Joker now has a ‘teaser’ – even if it is as long as most trailers – and although I still don’t get why this isn’t part of the DCEU (since Jared Leto will still be playing that role in those movies for now – and I actually liked his performance!), I sat through the whole of this video and thought one word: Unnecessary.

In long, I don’t really think he suits the role. Joaquin Phoenix can often turn in a decent performance, but then he’ll no doubt get ten times the wage in this film, than he did in something like the superb You Were Never Really Here, so he’s sucking on Satan’s shilling just like Jake Gyllenhaal has for Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Another piece of odd casting is Douglas Hodge as Alfred. I normally expect this sort of role to be played by someone old like the late Michael Gough, or someone eccentric like Jeremy Irons, who thinks fathers should marry their sons (what a weirdo!).

Meanwhile, Hodge is now like the drunk uncle.

Joker is released in the UK on October 4th, although this teaser should really have been released on April 1st… a day for jokes and jokers.

Director: Todd Phillips
Screenplay: Todd Phillips, Scott Silver
Also stars: Zazie Beetz, Robert De Niro, Brian Tyree Henry, Bryan Callen, Shea Whigham, Frances Conroy, Glenn Fleshler, Brett Cullen, Marc Maron

Joker
Joker is the forthcoming 2019 origin movie about the Batman villain starring Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role, and today, a ‘camera test’ has been unveiled, to show what he looks like in the role. I’m not particularly sold on this as it is. What do you reckon?

September 16th:

Joker is the 2019 origin movie about the Batman villain with Joaquin Phoenix (You Were Never Really Here) in the lead role, and a film I hadn’t heard was actually happening, especially since I thought Jared Leto was the Joker, these days, given his role in Suicide Squad. What did I miss?

Well, it turns out there will be TWO Jokers, as this film won’t be part of the DCEU (DC Extended Universe). Why, though, I don’t know.

Oh well, the film is directed by Todd Phillips (War Dogs), who is co-writing it with Scott Silver, and the film also stars Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy and Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2).

Joker is due for release in the US on October 4th 2019, but expect the date to change, and no UK date has yet been announced.

Enjoy these new pics below, which I saw on the DC Comic Nerds Facebook Page.
